Dear CPS Students and Families,
Applications are now open to submit 3-D artwork to Extra/Ordinary: A Showcase of Chicago Public Schools’ Student Art! This is an exciting NEW exhibition opportunity open to all CPS students in any grade that will display selected works at the Art Institute of Chicago.
What makes a world extraordinary? What does an ordinary object look like in an extraordinary world? What does extraordinary look like? What kind of story does extraordinary tell?
In partnership with the Art Institute of Chicago’s Teen Council and the CPS Art Student Voice Committee, Extra/Ordinary highlights 3-D artwork by CPS students in grades Pre-K–12 from any CPS school (including district-managed, charter, contract, and options schools).
To submit your work, APPLY HERE before 5:00 PM CST on Friday, January 16, 2026. Selected artworks will be featured on the Art Institute's website and displayed in the Ryan Learning Center’s Art Exchange.
Learn more about this opportunity and more at cps.edu/acva or contact allcityarts@cps.edu.
We are so excited to see your work!
Sincerely,
CPS Department of Arts Education
7th graders take STEM Lab 7 and then have a choice:
Fundamentals of IT (Exploring Computer Science) is an introductory CS course. Students will write code in Scratch and HTML/CSS. This course prepares them for our three Computer Science tracks.
Engineering 1: Intro to Engineering Design is a course that teaches students about 3D modeling, the design process, and mechanics. This prepares students for our Engineering and Robotics track.
Please see the following message from Sarah Trebat-Leder, who is helping to form and recruit for summer residential math camps for middle school students! The email provides information on student (camper) applications AND on how to apply to be faculty for one of these camps! Please share with your students and colleagues who might be interested!

This is Sarah Trebat-Leder again. I’m part of the founding team for National Math Camps (we have a website now!). Our mission is to ensure that mathematically talented students have access to high-quality summer math programs. Existing programs like PROMYS, Mathcamp, MathPath, and HCSSiM are oversubscribed, leaving many students without opportunities. By significantly expanding the number of seats available, we aim to bridge this gap and foster the next generation of mathematicians.
Next summer, we’re launching two residential summer camps for advanced middle school students - Camp Conway at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA and Camp Sierpinski at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh, NC.
If you have middle school students in your math circle who might be a good fit, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could share this opportunity with them. Our regular application deadline is March 14th.
We're also looking for faculty members for next summer. We expect that most of our faculty will join us for either one or two weeks. Like with many math circles, our faculty all choose their own course topics. However, you'll also get to dive a lot deeper than is generally possible with a math circle, as you'll have the same group of students for 13.5 hours over the course of the week. And you'll have lots of other opportunities throughout the week to get to know your students better and participate in camp life.
See our job posting here for more information. I'd greatly appreciate it if you were able to spread the word about this opportunity to anyone who may be interested! We'll also have counselor positions coming soon for college students and early graduate students. (Until that's posted, they can submit their interest here.)
And feel free to reach out to me at sarah@nationalmathcamps.org with any questions or suggestions.
Thanks so much!
